On the road - my second zine

Good morning all.

Over the last few weeks, as well as starting work on a new long term body of work, which I managed to combine with taking my 13 year old boy on his first photo road trip, I’ve been busy putting my new and second zine together.

The response to the first zine was so positive (it sold out in 3 weeks), it gave me the energy to make this second one, ‘On the road’, available to order now and shipping next week, once the traditional postcards I make for each book and zine arrive with me.

Whilst making work, driving between locations, and sometimes also travelling on planes, trains and boats, I am drawn to the world often speeding by. Much of my time is spent pulling over, stopping, wondering, replaying the scene in my head, and walking back, or more often than not, driving on for a minute or two, heading steadfastly to my destination, only to then look for a side road, or patch of dirt, to turn around at and go back.

To look. To photograph. To record.

These places on the way to somewhere else.

The ‘somewhere else’ that I have to go to, making work.

This new zine contains a bit more text than the first, as the specific locations are more deeply embedded in the images…it also contains a very short story from a train station in Romania. So it’s pushed my nascent design ‘skills’ to their limits.

44 pages
15 × 21 cm
29 photographs
Uncoated stock
Staple bound
Self-published by two&two press

Like my first (now available as a reprint after the 1st edition sold out), ‘On the road’ is available from just £8.50 with the option of a special edition with a signed 10x8 inch print made on beautiful Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 gsm Giclee archival photographic paper. The photograph in the print is from my first of many trips to Moldova, in September 2015.

I hope you enjoy this second foray into zine design and making from me and it’s ability to tell the ‘side’ stories I come across whilst making my work, in a small and accessible format.

My best wishes as ever,

Marc
