Sucessfull Kickstarter campaign - 'The Edge of Ruin' book will be made!

"For each new body of work, alongside initial subject research is a period of visual research where I will visit locations and find the best working method...I can then take this visual methodology into each location with me, still though allowing for the locations and what I discover there to determine the final photograph."

Good morning all,

Early on Sunday morning, 4 days early, the Kickstarter campaign for my new book, reached its goal which means the book can be made!

I’m so happy as it is harder than ever raising production costs these days so I want to thank the 174 backers that have so far made the book a reality by preordering their copy and the countless others that have helped in this success through sharing the campaign.

There are still 3 days left in the campaign and we continue to raise funds that will allow us to add more design touches to the book and also, if possible, to print more copies. The more we print in this run the better as it’s almost impossible to find funds for a 2nd print run these days.

So it is the final chance to have your name in the book listed as a supporter of the work by preordering your signed copy at the special Kickstarter price.

I have also had my first interview about the work, with Tim Parkin from On Landscape magazine, and you can read that here. Early in a body of work it is hard to always put your thoughts into succinct words so having these questions to answer has certainly helped focus my mind in that process.

Myself and designer Wayne Ford are deep in discussion now about the design, freed by the newly found certainty that the book can be made.
Wayne is making and sending me potential layouts, mock ups, pull outs, sample books, etc. We have two different potential formats for the book we are looking at, seeing which one works best for the subject.

It’s a book where we are going to push the design more than in my previous ones as that is what the subject allows, so I’m really looking forwards to the process over the next few months.

Busy with this new book, I am also working on the research for my next body of work, which I’ve had in my mind for the last 4 years and I hope to be going on location for that in October.

I used to need clear space to work on something new. These days I find as soon as I start working on the book of one series, my brain kicks into thinking on the next. But more about that another time.

That is all for now.

Best wishes,

Marc
