Dartmoor 1 day workshop
One day photography workshop on location in Dartmoor to help you understand the why and what you are making photographs about.
Saturday November 7th, 2026
9am to 4pm
Meet time - 9am - Car park location to be confirmed.
Finish - Back at car at approximately between 3 and 4pm (latest) - 1 hour before sunset.
We will run the workshop in all conditions (except storms of course) so be prepared.
Between 4 to 6 participants.
Workshop
The emphasis of these workshops is the creative process under the guidance and mentorship of Marc Wilson.
A photographic walk through a history filled rugged and beautiful Dartmoor landscape, with group and individual discussions, as well as a packed lunch, along the way.
This workshop is about the why and what you are making photographs about, to help you develop your own way of looking at the space you are in and to help cultivate your own way of seeing.
Often this is about slowing down and looking, making the decision of what to photograph (and understanding why) before you bring your camera to your eye.
Details and practical information
Between 4 to 6 participants for each workshop, and open to photographers of all levels, although please note you will need to already have a good working knowledge of your equipment to allow you to get the most out of the day.
A good level of fitness is required for these workshops (you should be ready and able to walk 6miles (10km) fairly easily), often on uneven surfaces.
The whole workshop is on location in the outdoors, so all participants must come prepared with clothing and footwear that is suitable for these conditions. Dress to keep warm and dry.
What you will need.
I suggest travelling as light as possible with everything you will need in a simple backpack with waterproof cover. There is no need to overload yourself with multiple bodies and lenses…in fact I recommend the simplest kit possible to allow you to concentrate on what is in front of you. (For reference I work with 1 body and 1 lens and on locations such as these, a tripod).
Camera of your choice (digital or film, compact to medium format)
Lenses and any accessories you would normally use, but bear in mind what I say above about travelling light.
Tripod is recommended to help in the mentoring process, but not essential.
Extra memory cards, film, batteries, etc.
Tested waterproof jacket, trousers / over-trousers and warm layers including hat and gloves (depending on the season).
Waterproof cover for your camera.
Strong and sturdy, waterproof walking boots or shoes (spare socks for after)
Water bottle and space in your bag for your packed lunch that we will provide, and any extra snacks, drinks that you want to bring.
Info.
Workshops run in almost all weathers, so be prepared with the correct gear (see above).
A minimum of 4 participants is required for the workshop to run (of course if it can not run for this reason you will receive a full refund)
If you need to cancel you can do so prior to 2 weeks before the workshop runs for a full refund. After this a 50% refund will be given, unless of course we can fill your place and then a full refund is given.
If we need to cancel the workshop in advance due to the weather, we will of course reorganise it for another day or offer you a full refund if you can not make the new date.
If we need to cancel the workshop for any other reason then of course a full refund will be offered (although we will also offer another date instead).
Insurance - Participants are responsible for arranging their own travel and insurance, including cover for cameras and other equipment. We strongly recommend taking out insurance that protects against damage, unexpected cancellation, illness, or travel disruption.
