‘One Night is far and away the best zine I’ve ever seen’
‘Beautiful, funny, thought-provoking…A delight’
‘Thank you so much for the wonderful zine…It felt like being given a quiet glimpse into people’s lives.’
After making 7 photobooks I have now made my first ‘zine’.
(Zine - pronounced ‘zeen’. Often, small and self published, the term itself comes from ‘fanzine’ which itself came from a mix of ‘fan’ and ‘magazine’)
One night
40 pages
15 × 21 cm
35 photographs
Uncoated stock
Staple bound
Self-published by Marc Wilson / two&two press
Between 2015 and 2021 I travelled to over 30 countries making work.
Each night a different hotel or guesthouse.
In these small rooms, I found a reflection of the owners, every one a small oasis for me in which to rest and take stock of what I had seen during the days work before heading out, or just back down the stairs to the hotel restaurant, trying to find something cheap to eat each evening; before the few hours sleep and the inevitable early alarm clock.
The photographs I have included in this zine show rooms from Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Romania and Ukraine.
Standard edition - £10
Signed edition - £11
Special print edition (with a signed 10x8 inch print) - £75
The 10×8 inch print is made on beautiful Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 gsm Giclee archival photographic paper and is of my room in Kharkiv in Eastern Ukraine, where I stayed for 3 nights in January 2019, making work on ‘A Wounded Landscape - bearing witness to the Holocaust’.
My only time in Kharkiv, 3 days full of making work, meetings and wonderful food at the beautiful Gastronomique Cafe Paris restaurant.
Available now as a reprint, the 1st edition having sold out.
